Spring Cleaning
RITUAL: Cleansing | SOLAR TERM: Jing Zhe | SEASON: Winter-Spring
March 5 - 20
The third solar term of the Chinese calendar is called Jing Zhe. Jing Zhe means, “The Waking of Insects”. It’s the time of year when hibernating animals awaken from their deep sleep and long winter’s nap. Traditional Chinese folklore says hibernating insects are startled awake by thunderstorms.
Jing Zhe is the perfect time to do a parasite cleanse. In preparation for Spring, do a Spring cleaning of your body. As the weather gets warmer and the Earth’s bugs spring back to life, cleanse your body of any creep crawlies and their eggs before they have a chance to hatching wreak havoc with your health.
If you have a pulse, you have parasites.
It used to be that people thought parasitical infestations were contracted from traveling to foreign countries, drinking contaminated water and eating food prepared without proper safety measures and cooking practices. But the truth is that everyone, in all parts of the world, are susceptible to getting parasites. And almost everyone, 85% of people, have some kind of parasite.
People can get parasites in a variety of different ways, even in first world countries. Parasites are in our air, water, food and soil. You are more prone to having parasites if you have low stomach acid or heavy metals, which is common for most people.
The following are common sources of parasites.
Sources of Parasites
Drinking unclean, tap or even bottled water
Taking baths or showers with contaminated or tap water
Garden hose water
Swimming or wading in a lake, stream, pond, river or pool
Poor hygiene
Infrequent or insufficient hand washing
A handshake
Sexual contact
Walking barefoot
Gardening or working in the soil
Having pets
Eating food prepared by people who don’t wash their hands properly or with less than ideal personal hygiene
Eating undercooked food
Eating pork
Eating raw meat like ceviche, tartar and sushi
Eating fruits and vegetables that have not been properly washed
Parasites are organisms that live in or on a host. Parasites are not just intestinal worms. Studies show that humans host over 100 different species. And they sustain themselves by feeding off the nutrients you consume.
These unwelcome guests live and thrive at the expense of your health and vitality. They impair the absorption and utilization of minerals. They suppress your immune system. They are connected with candida.
You can work with a functional, integrative medicine or naturopathic doctor or root cause practitioner. They can order labs to test you for a variety of health issues including parasites, heavy metal, mold, viruses, bacterial overgrowth, candida, Lyme, mineral deficiencies, hormone imbalances and other environmental toxins. The following are common symptoms of having parasites.

There are many foods and herbs that help with parasite cleansing. You can include these foods in your diet. In Ecuador, I added dried and ground papaya seeds to smoothies.
Parasite Cleansing Foods
Raw Garlic (add crushed garlic to homemade olive oil and vinegar dressings)
Raw pumpkin seeds (1 handful on an empty stomach in the am)
Fresh papaya seeds (up to 1 tablespoon on an empty stomach in the am for 14 days)
The following herbs are often combined to take via capsules, tinctures and teas. The one I’ve used is called ParaGuard from Zahler. Global Healing has one called ParaTrex. In Mexico, they use an herb called Chaparro Amargoso (2 capsules with each meal - they eat when you eat!)
Parasite Cleansing Herbs
Black Walnut
Wormwood
Cloves
Oregano
Tansy
Sage Leaf
Fennel Seed
Male Fern
Senna Leaf
Artemisia
Mimosa Pudica
Parasite Cleansing Protocols
I did my first parasite cleanse at the age of 16. Back in the ‘90’s, I used an herbal protocol from a network marketing company called Awareness. While you can do your own parasite cleanse with a variety of tinctures, teas and herbal supplements, I recommend working with a natural health professional, getting tested and committing to a 3-4 month protocol. The one I recommend is the Foundational Protocol from Microbe Formulas. If you work with a root cause practitioner, they will order a customized protocol from CellCore Biosciences, the sister company of Microbe Formulas.
Best Practices
Do a parasite cleanse with your partner or as a family.
Do daily coffee enemas as part of your protocol. Use pesticide and mycotoxin/mold-free coffee from Dr. Mercola’s Solspring, Purity Coffee or Alfa Vedic.
Make sure your drainage pathways are open so you can properly eliminate the parasites.
You need to kill and pass both the parasites and their eggs to complete a cleanse.
Once you complete a proper parasite cleanse, there are maintenance level supplements you can take.
You may need to do parasite cleanses annually.
Parasite cleanses are best begun on the full moon.
