Yin & Yang Calendars

T8E BLOG - Yin & Yang Calendars

There are two Chinese calendars, one yin and one yang. The yin or lunar calendar is based on the phases of the moon. The yang or solar calendar is based on the solar longitudes that determine the cycles of the seasons.

The ancient Chinese attempted to synchronize the lunar and solar calendars by adding an extra month 7 out of every 19 years. This additional month, also known as a leap month, is the reason the 1st day of the 1st month of the Chinese lunar New Year varies from year to year between January and February.

The Chinese year of the Yang Wood Horse begins on January 31st 2014 and ends on February 19th 2015.  The lunar calendar is also the basis for the Chinese animal signs.

Feng Shui and The 8 Elements are based on the solar calendar. This calendar is divided into 24 solar terms each lasting about 15 days. The Chinese solar New Year is the first day of the first solar term. This first day falls midway between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox, usually the 4th or 5th of February.

The 2014 Chinese solar calendar begins on February, 4th 2014 and ends on February 3, 2015.

Chinese Animal Signs & Personal Elements

The 12 zodiac animal signs come from Chinese astrology. Chinese astrology is based on the year, month, day and hour of your birth. Your Chinese astrological chart combines the heavenly stems and earthly branches and animal signs with the five elements and yin and yang energies. These Four Pillars of Destiny reveal what the Chinese consider your Human Luck. Feng Shui, an earth science known as your Earth Luck is used to remedy or enhance your Human Luck.

Personal elements are determined by your gender and year of your birth. Your personal element is a combination of yin & yang energy and the five natural elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, and water).
