Fall Reads
RITUAL: Reading | SEASON: Fall | MONTH: October
If you’re an avid reader, it can be fun to create a quarterly TBR with books that are set in that season. Reading them puts you in the mood and inspires you to enjoy each season even more. In the Fall, there is nothing more cozy than putting on some soft music, starting a fire or lighting a candle and curling up in a comfy chair with a hot cup of tea and a good story to read.
“I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”
~ L. M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
People like to read Gothic novels, spooky stories, murder mysteries and dark academia literature with atmospheric Fall vibes. Fiction set in a cozy small town or stories about witches or vampires are also popular. Any Brontë novel is perfect for a Fall read. Dracula and Frankenstein are usually read this time of year. Then, once you’ve read the classics, there’s always an assortment of retellings. Some other autumnal authors are Neil Gaiman, Edgar Allen Poe, Ray Bradbury, Agatha Christie, Alice Hoffman and L.M. Montgomery.
"That country where it is always turning late in the year. That country where the hills are fog and the rivers are mist; where noons go quickly, dusks and twilights linger, and midnights stay. That country composed in the main of cellars, sub-cellars, coal-bins, closets, attics, and pantries faced away from the sun. That country whose people are autumn people, thinking only autumn thoughts. Whose people passing at night on the empty walks sound like rain..."
~ Ray Bradbury
