Gift Wrapping for The 8 Elements
Now that you’ve finished your Christmas shopping and checked everyone off your list, it’s time to make a cup of tea or peppermint hot chocolate, put on a favorite Christmas movie, album or playlist and start wrapping!
Gift wrapped presents can be a holiday decoration of their own. Whether you place your presents under the Christmas tree or display them in the main living room, the gift wrapping you choose can add some cheerful color and a bright sparkle to your space.
The wrapping can match your holiday decorations, the Christmas tree theme or room decor. Some people like to purchase multiple rolls of just one wrapping paper and wrap all of their gifts with the same paper and ribbons. Others, especially parents with multiple children, like to select a special theme or different colored wrapping paper for each child.
I was never one to spend money on wrapping paper that would be thrown away almost immediately. This year, my daughter and I used free Trader Joe’s brown paper bags, printed with gingerbread houses to wrap my son’s gifts. You can also use the brown packing paper that comes in boxes from online orders and stamp or paint your own festive pattern. Thrift some sheet music or use tissue paper, construction paper, newspaper or pages of magazines. In a pinch, you could use wax or parchment paper or even aluminum foil.
Also, not all gifts need to be wrapped in paper. In addition to re-usable gift bags and gift boxes, you can use other kinds of materials and a variety of different types of containers. Once I received an assortment of coffee items presented in a beautiful glass punch bowl. Thrift some glass mason jars, wicker baskets or wooden, metal or fabric covered boxes. Wrap gifts in pillow cases, cotton tea towels or linen napkins or handkerchiefs. Or, use leftover corduroy fabric or felt from sewing or craft projects to wrap gifts. Place your gift inside a leather, velvet, chiffon, canvas or burlap bag. Or, wrap a gift inside an article of clothing, like a flannel scarf or knitted sweater and tie it with a ribbon.
