Honoring Your Need for Help
You went into business for yourself to make a living at the things you’re good at and love to do. But instead of doing your good work in the world, much of your work day is taken up by redundant admin tasks and replying to emails, developing marketing strategies and email campaigns, website design and maintenance, social media posts and ads, graphic design and video editing, writing emails and publishing blogs, copywriting for sales pages and setting up payment systems, creating freebies and free webinars.
You sign up for all the courses. The business school course, the online marketing course, the copywriting course, the building your email list course, the digital course course, the sales funnel course, the legal protection course, the money mindset course, the Instagram course, the YouTube course. You know, all the courses they try to sell us so we can have a successful, profitable and scalable business we love! Not just an expensive hobby.
And why do we do this? Because we are in business for ourselves and think we have to do everything ourselves. Because we want to save money instead of investing in hiring professionals to help us get our business set up properly and run smoothly. But we’ll spend thousands of dollars on courses to learn how to do all the things ourselves?
Here’s an idea: Hire Experts
Don’t try to do all the things. All the things you’re doing that take you away from the work you’re really here to do. All the things you could learn how to do but don’t really want to spend the time actually doing. All the things you should do but don’t like doing. All the things you have to do but aren’t good at doing. All the things you need to do but could be done by someone else.
The good news is: There are people for that!
Instead of buying another course, hire professionals to help you with the aspects of your business that need the most help, create the most stress for you or take too much of your time or mental space. Even if you’re a solopreneur, and don’t like expending the energy required to manage other people, outsource aspects of your business in ways that work for you.
It’s ok to seek out and accept the help you need.
Stop trying to do all the things yourself. And stop buying the self-study courses you never complete or apply to your business and end up having to hire someone to help you anyway. Instead, assemble a small team of people who can help you with the things you’re not good at, don’t enjoy doing or are a misuse of your limited time and precious energy. Support the small businesses of fellow self-employed entrepreneurs who have expertise in the areas of business you don’t.
Find an authentic business coach you trust and respect.
Pay an attorney to set up your LLC, get your business name trademarked, write your website terms of service and privacy policy, create your contracts, send a letter to the copycat stealing your intellectual property.
Hire a webmaster, graphic designer and copywriter.
Get pictures taken by a professional photographer.
Employ a virtual assistant to help you with admin tasks and email, social media marketing or video editing.
Work with someone who can help you develop an ethical marketing plan that you feel good about implementing.
Knowing who you are and honoring your essential needs, unique strengths and highest values is the most important key to success. Otherwise, you’re modeling your business after what worked for someone else and trying to do it their way. Or, you’re burning yourself out by trying to do all the things.
I like online self-study courses. As a lifelong learner, I’ve committed to learning a new modality or studying a new interest every year. Most of the time I’m learning a new skill that complements my feng shui consultations, like astrogeography, or my energy work, like the Akashic Records, Galactic Heritage or the Tarot. I also like to invest in my self-knowledge, like learning how to honor my human design in my life and business.
