Energy is always moving, always changing. Energy is never still, never the same. The energy in the Universe, the constellations in the heavens and the nature in abundance on Mother Earth move in cycles. It's the spiral path of the evolution of consciousness.
In feng shui, energy shifts in 60-year cycles, 20-year cycles and 9-year cycles. The energy is also shifting on an annual basis, and even monthly and daily. In classical feng shui, we remedy and enhance our living and working environments every year and tweak our feng shui each month.
The cycles most relevant to our lives and businesses are the 20-year cycles, 9-year cycles and annual cycles. It's also helpful to know what the monthly energies are so you can maximize the auspicious energy and minimize the inauspicious energy.
We have been in a 20-year cycle of Mountain Earth energy. This energy is very productive and money driven, physically focused and sexually active. It also inspires a lot of spiritual growth and self-knowledge. We've seen a huge rise in productivity experts and self help gurus, as well as, high pressure marketing and hustle culture. We're about to begin shifting into a new 20-year cycle. In February of 2024, the Fire energy cycle officially begins. In truth, we've already been experiencing the first sparks and flickers of this passionate and enlightening energy. In feng shui, the energy of the year is determined by the descending pattern from 9 to 1. We are currently at the mid-point of that 9-year cycle. 2022 is a Yellow Earth year. You can read about the Yellow Earth annual energy on the blog.
Next year is a Soft Wood element energy year. Soft Wood is represented by "The Entrepreneur". It's also represented by "persistent wind", so it would be wise to use the last quarter of the year to prepare for the whirlwind that will be 2023.
We are in for some emotionally charged years ahead. The Soft Wood energy in 2023 is followed by the Hard Wood energy in 2024. Humans will be asked to process their emotions in healthy ways, release stored and inherited emotions and become more emotionally intelligent.
In the productive cycle, Wood supports the Fire element. As we transition out of the grounded Mountain Earth energy and into the dynamic Fire energy, these two Wood element energy years are having two important effects on this shift between these 20-year cycles. Wood dominates Earth causing it to feel depleted of energy and less resistant to releasing and creating space for the imminent cleansing firestorm. And Wood fuels Fire, providing it with the necessary energy to kindle a spark, ignite the "Clinging Fire" and watch it burst into flame.
