Once in a Blue Moon

HR Blog - Once in a Blue Moon

RITUAL: Blue Moon | SEASON: Fall | MONTH: August

The phrase “once in a blue moon” refers to a rare event. A “blue moon” refers to having a second full moon within a calendar month and the third of four full moons in a season. The blue moon happening on August 30 - 31 is also a super moon, meaning it will appear larger and brighter because of it’s closer proximity to the Earth.

I’m not moon worshipper so I don’t practice new moon and full moon rituals. I don’t charge my crystals under the light of the moon. I don’t make moon water. I don’t dance naked in the moonlight. And I don’t make new moon wishes or do full moon meditations.

I know feng shui consultations who send monthly emails and publish monthly newsletters about new moon manifestation rituals and full moon energy cleansing rituals. They like to include insights about the sign of the month and astrological events like planet retrogrades. As a classical feng shui consultant, I find this content very odd given the fact that traditional feng shui is based on the Chinese solar calendar, made up of 24 solar terms of 15 days each not the 28 day lunar cycle. This year, the HER Rituals publications have been dedicated to exploring these solar terms.

There are some things you can do to utilize this lunar energy. You can perform these monthly rituals on the full moon of the lunar cycle or during your monthly cycle’s ovulatory phase. Clear the energy in your space so you can receive what you’re intending to manifest into your life.

Cleanse

As a holistic health advocate, I encourage people to schedule their parasite cleanses during the days leading up to and after a full moon as this is the time when these pesky critters are more active and can be targeted by detoxifying herbs. It would also be a good time to take a detox bath with Epsom salt, Dead Sea salt, baking soda and borax, as well as, some essential oils like the ones in the Zendocrine Detoxifying Blend from doTERRA. If you don’t have a bathtub, I recommend a foot bath or a salt scrub in the shower.

Clean

Like cleansing your body, full moons are also a good time to do some deep cleaning and decluttering of your home and office. I do quick 20 minute tidy ups in the morning and evening on a daily basis and weekly household cleaning. But once a month it’s a good idea to do some deeper cleaning of areas of your home that need more time and attention.

Clear

Full moons can make some people more aware of their emotion states. If you tend to experience or express more emotions during a full moon, it might be a good opportunity to clear some emotions that are coming up in the moment. Or, you can take advantage of this opportunity to clear trapped or inherited emotions that have been stored in the body. You can use clearing statements, energy healing modalities or the Emotion Code® technique.

Reflect

The moon reflects the light of the sun. The full moon is a good time to shine a light on your life, reflect on the darkness within and illuminate your shadows. Express appreciation for what you accomplished. Feel your deepest emotions and journal about your feelings. Take the time to get some clarity about what you’d like to manifest or receive.

Receive

The full moon is represented by the ovulatory phase of a woman’s cycle, when the egg is released and becomes ready for fertilization. It’s a time to honor your desires and get your needs met. Say yes to invitations, offers and opportunities. Receive what you need to conceive a new idea and create new life.

Once in a blue moon, a rare opportunity comes into your life. This opportunity may be transformative and life-changing. So, prepare your life, open your heart and expand your ability to receive.
