February Self Love
RITUAL: Self Love | SEASON: Winter-Spring | HOLIDAY: Valentine's Day
February is the month to show yourself some more love. Don’t limit your expressions of self love to a single day of the year on February 14th. Be intentional this month about getting better at loving yourself.
A lot of emphasis is placed on romance in the weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day. Women tend to have many un-communicated expectations for spectacular dates, fancy dinners, expensive gifts and even marriage proposals or romantic weekend getaways. And men feel the pressure to make grand gestures so their wives and girlfriends feel loved.
Single women like to gather with their other single friends for a Galentine’s event. They will go to dinner together and see a movie. Or, to avoid the crowds at restaurants and reminders everywhere of the romance missing in their own lives, they’ll stay in on the evening of Valentine’s Day. A Ladies’ Night In might include take out and pink cocktails or a bottle of red wine, a box of assorted chocolates and a romcom marathon.
Even if you have plans for Valentine’s Day with your beloved or friends, you can still make the effort to romanticize your life and LOVE yourself. You can buy yourself flowers and gifts. Or, better yet, you could plan to do more of the things that you LOVE to do.
Favorite Things Day
Make a list of your favorite things to eat, drink and do. Then, plan a Favorite Things Day in February. (It doesn’t have to be on the 14th.)
Spa Day
Make a list of your favorite self care rituals. Then, plan a Spa Day for you and your mother, sister, daughter or best friends. Or, have a special day at the spa by yourself. You don’t have to actually go to a day spa. You could shop for some new body products and plan a spa day at home. Or, go out for a massage, facial or mani/pedi and come home for a long, luxurious bubble bath.
Self Love Rituals
Write
Write yourself a LOVE letter. Write about how much you love your life. Express love to yourself for all of your wonderful qualities. Write in your journal or better yet, make a card or handwrite a letter to yourself that you can open on Valentine’s Day.
Write yourself some LOVE notes. Get some pink sticky notes and with a red pen, write “I am well loved”, “I am beautiful”, etc. Then, leave them around your house where you can see them during the day.
Decorate
Make your home, or at least your bedroom, a love nest. Add fresh flowers and unscented candles. Diffuse some romantic and sensual essential oil blends, like doTERRA’s Passion.
Adorn
Buy yourself some new lingerie, a feminine nightgown or silk dressing gown. Get a necklace, bracelet or ring made that has special significance for you.
Make
Make your own non-toxic bath salts or bath bombs, body scrubs or sugar lip scrubs. Create your own signature scent by blending favorite essential oils.
Shop
Buy yourself a new journal or tea cup. Splurge on some favorite skin care or new makeup.
Eat
Prepare a favorite meal or yummy dessert. Or, take yourself out to eat. Try a healthier version of a favorite recipe. Or, make something decadent to enjoy!
Drink
Try a pink drink, hot or cold, caffeinated or alcoholic. Or, make a pink mocktail or caffeine-free warm beverage.
Read
Read a romance novel or listen to an audiobook. Pull an oracle card or do a special tarot card reading for love.
